OMAHA, NE – Nationally known economist Stephen Moore and regional economist Dr. Ernie Goss joined State Sen. Tom Briese of Albion in praising the Charles W. Herbster Tax Plan as the best way to grow Nebraska’s economy and to relieve beleaguered taxpayers, who are staggering under burdensome property, sales and income taxes.

Mr. Moore, who served as founding President of the Club for Growth and Chief Economist at the conservative Heritage Foundation, endorsed a bold restructuring of Nebraska’s antiquated tax code, which dates from the 1960s.
A former editorial writer for The Wall Street Journal, Mr. Moore also pointed to Mr. Herbster’s call for a reduction of local spending and property taxes, a key element of the Herbster plan, as pivotal to providing sustainable tax relief for Nebraskans.
“Combined with reform of Nebraska’s exemptions and income tax structure,” Mr. Moore said, “controlling local spending will position Nebraska well among its peer states.”
Mr. Moore was joined in this endorsement of the Herbster Tax Plan by Dr. Goss, a regional economist and author with ties to Creighton University. Dr. Goss also held appointments as scholar-in-residence at the Congressional Budget Office and the National Aeronautics & Space Administration.
“Replacing the inequities of current exemptions and deductions with a flat income tax is essential for economic competitiveness with states like Iowa and South Dakota,” said Dr. Goss. “Charles Herbster has made this a cornerstone of his plan for Nebraska.”
