The Cornhusker Guardian encourages voters to cast their ballots FOR Initiative 432 (which would require a valid photo ID in order to vote in Nebraska elections).
We can thank Marlene Ricketts (mother of Gov. Pete Ricketts and wife of TD Ameritrade founder Joe Ricketts) for donating the lion’s share of money needed to collect a sufficient number of signatures to get this important concept on the November ballot after the Unicameral, paralyzed by the threat of a Democrat and liberal Republican filibuster, would not pass it.
Democrats, however, are calling this initiative a “voter suppression” measure, which is ridiculous. Photo IDs are required for a host of ordinary, everyday activities, such as opening a bank account, traveling on commercial airliners, and renting a hotel room. Photo IDs also require very little effort to get them (and for a purpose far more important than renting a hotel room or boarding an airplane). They also cost as little as $10.
The real reason Democrats are so adamantly opposed to Initiative 432 is because a significant portion of their base is simply too lazy, too cheap, or too buzzed out on marijuana and other drugs to make the effort to get a photo ID, which ultimately diminishes the number of ballots cast from that troubled portion of the Democrat party.
For Democrats who feel financially challenged (or overwhelmed by the minimal effort involved), The Cornhusker Guardian is sure that a grant from George Soros or Susie Buffett could probably supply the money necessary to pay for a photo ID and for a social worker or personal attendant to help such Democrats get one.
For the foregoing reasons, The Cornhusker Guardian recommends a vote FOR Initiative 432 on November 8th.
